Geoffrey Rush To Join 'Pirates Of The Caribbean'
[Friday, June 21st, 2002]Geoffrey Rush is in negotiations to portray the pirate Capt. Blackheart in the Walt Disney Co.'s big-screen version of "Pirates of the Caribbean," reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The acclaimed Aussie actor will star opposite Johnny Depp in the film that centers on a daring rescue attempt from dangerous pirates trying to reverse an ancient curse.
The most recent draft of "Pirates," which is based on the Disney theme park ride, was penned by "Shrek" scribes Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott, working from earlier drafts from Jay Wolpert and Stuart Beattie.
"Pirates" is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and executive produced by Bruckheimer Films' Mike Stenson.
