Fox 'Prey' On Michael Crichtons Novel
[Friday, July 26th, 2002]20th Century Fox has acquired the motion picture rights to Michael Crichton's upcoming novel "Prey."
Fox made a pre-emptive bid for the novel, which will be published by HarperCollins in November. The story is a tightly guarded secret but brings together specific themes from two previous blockbuster Crichton works: "The Andromeda Strain" and "Jurassic Park."
"Michael Crichton has always been one of the best at identifying concepts that are topical and well-suited for the big screen," Fox president Hutch Parker said.
"He is very astute when it comes to pop culture and still manages to steep his ideas in real science." Although specifics about the plot remain a secret, Parker said the genre is best described as "techno-thriller or social sci-fi" and suggested that the plot relates to the opening of a Pandora's box with regard to biotechnology and genetic engineering
