Tobey Maguire Talks Spider-Man
[Saturday, April 7th, 2001]Tobey Maguire spoke with Cindy Pearlman about of his preparation for his role as Spider-Man, saying "I've done all kinds of training for flexibility. I've also been pushing up some iron. I'm ready for anything."
Stan Lee's classic credo of "with great power comes great responsibility" will remain intact in the film, as Maguire notes, "First of all, Spider-Man's so strong that if he hit regular people he'd seriously injure them. He's too responsible a man to do that kind of thing."
On his role as Peter Parker he said, "He's a great character because he's so relatable. He's a regular kid who gets these superpowers. But he's conflicted about it in our script, which makes him interesting."
