Director McG Quits 'Superman' Project
[Monday, July 12th, 2004]Director McG has dropped out of Warner Bros.' Superman franchise, says Variety. McG is the second director to have quit the project after Brett Ratner.
McG and studio are said to have been unable to reach an agreement over location and budget matters. McG is thought to have wanted the project to shoot in North America, while Warner Bros. reportedly wanted to shoot in Australia's Fox studios, possibly saving them tens of millions in production costs.
"When I flew to New York to scout," McG said in a statement, "I became enamored with our greatest American city. It was clear to me that this was Metropolis. As a filmmaker, I felt it was inappropriate to try to capture the heart of America on another continent. I look at Superman as a character that embodies all that is beautiful about America."
According to speculations, the resignation could pave the way for Michael Bay to hop on board, but reps for Warners and Bay have denied this.
