Bill Murrey Takes On 'Squid And The Whale'
[Tuesday, November 5th, 2002]Bill Murray, Laura Linney and John Turturro are in advanced talks to co-star in "The Squid and the Whale," a family drama reminiscent of "The Royal Tenenbaums," reports Variety.
The picture focuses on an eccentric Brooklyn family whose patriarch (Murray) claims once to have been a famous novelist but is now reduced to teaching. When his wife (Linney) discovers a literary talent of her own, it breaks up the family, leaving the two teenage sons divided between their parents. The wife starts an affair with her younger son's tennis coach (Turturro), while the husband starts sleeping with a student whom his elder son is courting.
Noah Baumbach will direct the $8.5 million picture from his own script. Producing the picture are "Tenenbaums" director Wes Anderson and "Smoke" producer Peter Newman.
