Mary J. Blige To Star In 'Nina Simone' Biopic

Mary J. Blige is set to make her bigscreen debut in an MTV Films untitled Nina Simone biopic, says the Hollywood Reporter.

Simone is known as the high priestess of soul who rose to fame in the '60s with signature jazz ballads and powerful protest songs that were an anthem of the civil rights movement. In 1974, she went into exile, eventually ending up in Paris, where she died in 2003.

The project will chronicle Simone's ascent to stardom and her relationship with Paris-based manager Clifton Henderson.
