Luhrmann And De Laurentiis Talk On 'Alexander'
[Monday, June 30th, 2003]Dino De Laurentiis and Baz Luhrmann talked to the Sydney press about Alexander the Great, they hinted that they were going to shoot in New South Wales outback if the Austrailian government gives them help in the way of 500 soldiers and 1000 horses, reports Variety.
Both producer and director did not want to talk about Oliver Stones Alexander a rival production, which is soon to go into production.
They met Prime Minister John Howard on friday to make there proposal, Luhrmann also said that other countries had already offered soldiers and horses. De Laurentiis confirmed the budget is fully $150 million which is covered by Universal Pictures.
When Asked whether Mel Gibson is to play Alexander's father, Luhrmann declined to comment and De Laurentiis playfully covered the helmer's mouth, but the latter's broad grin suggested this casting coup is in the cards.
They said filming of some digital scenes will start in November and principal photography is due to commence in March.
