Owen Wilson Talks Bandit

Movies
Director Peyton Reed while discussing his previous release "Bring It On" with DVD File, nearing the end of the interview he begins to talk about his next project "Eastbound & Down" which is said to be remake of the famous 1977 film "Smokey & The Bandit"
"I'm developing a couple of things now and it's really too early to talk about them, one is the thing that we're working on for Universal," Reed advises DVD File. "Universal had this idea that they wanted to do a modern version of Smokey & The Bandit. I went in and pitched this thing that's 'The smart revisionist southern redneck chase movie', and we got this writer Brent Forrester who's a really funny guy, he wrote for the Ben Stiller Show and The Simpsons and King Of The Hill. He's writing the script and we've been working with Owen Wilson. I think this version is more about a guy who thinks he's the bandit. He's like the bandit in his own head, but no one else's. So, it could be really funny."

His postion in the role had also been confirmed before by the 4FilmMakers website August 2000
