Grant To Play Doctor Who?

Movies
IGN Filmforce report that Hugh Grant may be interested in the lead role to 'Doctor Who'. There have been many reports on stars wanting to play Who, as the BBC have been working on a big screen version of the long-running "Doctor Who" TV series for a number of years.

"The film department has had some contact with actor Hugh Grant (yes, that Hugh Grant) about possibly starring in the film," claims their source. "Grant appeared in the Comic Relief special Doctor Who and The Curse of Fatal Death and a few people took notice. Grant himself has mentioned that he would be interested but would want to play it in more of a Tom Baker style."

As far as the source can tell about what they are trying to do with the adaptation is that "the BBC are looking for something to bring the character back to the sort of feel it had back in its 'glory days' and having some connection with Tom Baker is thought to be a step in the right direction."

Apparently Tom Baker, ex-star of "Doctor Who," had co-written a screenplay with the late Ian Marter that had the working title "Doctor Who Meets Scratchman". This version "was a sort of mythical character, a subject of folklore.

"The mixture of science fiction and mythology was always something that made for good Doctor Who and the feeling was that this script would have remained faithful to the spirit of the series at that time."
