Planet Of The Apes Sequel Undecided

Producer Richard Zanuck spoke with Marilyn Beck & Stacy Jenel Smith about the production of the sequel to 'The Planet of the Apes'.

Zanuck revealed that though his blockbuster of 2001 had brought in some $380 million worldwide, 20th Century Fox has yet to decide when or even if, it will proceed with its follow-up.

"The studio made a lot of money on the picture, but because the budget was so high, it's in no hurry to do another," he says.

"Apes" cost just a little over $100 million -- modest by today's standards for major studio adventure yarns that require extensive special effects. However, Zanuck says of the sequel, "It could be a couple of years." Or not at all.
