Basics Is Gowning Down

Bruce Greenwood has confirmed hes not going for the part in "Basic Instinct 2" but is going to do "Below". He was at the Berlin Film Festival promoting his release "13 Days", he plays John F Kennedy. Greenwood said:
"As far as Basic Instinct goes, we were all standing in this very small boat and the water just kept getting higher and higher, and close to the edge, and it just got more and more tippy. I thought ‘I’m getting out!’"

Greenwood, who has decided to sign on instead for WWII sub drama Below opposite Olivia Williams, clarified his metaphor, referring to the situation surrounding the troubled production as "political". "I wasn’t sure if the movie wasn’t going to be made at all. By the middle of this weekend, I decided I didn’t know what the hell was going on, so I’m gone."

His departure followed the lead of original star Michael Douglas, as well as Kurt Russell and Robert Downey Jr. Director David Cronenberg also left the production due to the age-old Hollywood euphamism ‘creative differences’.

By comparison, playing one of the most famous political leaders of all time would seem a breeze for the 44 year-old actor. Not that he thought so at first. "Of course I was nervous about it. People have expectations. Everybody feels they know the Kennedys to some degree. Then I discovered pretty quickly, after lying awake in bed at night worrying about it, that that wasn’t going to get me anywhere, and I had the job whether I liked it or not. I just began to study, and try to ignore what people’s expectations might be. I chose not to watch any other films representing Kennedy. I watched a lot of file footage, of course. I tried to keep it a personal journey for myself."
