DiCaprio To Play Half-Man

Leonardo DiCaprio has long shown interest in the biopic 'Johnny Eck' and the project has finally gotten the go-ahead from Fox who will finance and distribute the film, reports Variety.

Caroline Thompson ('Edward Scissorhands') will write the screenplay that will tell the story of Johnny Eckhardt, a man who is missing the bottom half of his body, and his life on the freak show circuit.

DiCaprio would play Johnny as well as his identical twin brother Robert who doubled as his manager. Eckhardt starred in the 1932 MGM thriller 'Freaks' where he gained notoriety and later became known as the world's only "half-man."

DiCaprio currently has 'You Can Count On Me' and Martin Scorsese's 'Alexander the Great' project on his plate before he gets to filming 'Johnny Eck'. Once Thompson finishes her script, the project will go out to directors.
